What this MCP does
An MCP (Model Context Protocol server) is a packaged add-on that gives Claude new abilities. Install one and Claude can use it from then on. Apify MCP is Apify's official hosted server that connects Claude to the Apify Store, a marketplace of more than 6,000 pre-built web scrapers and automation tools called Actors. Instead of writing a scraper, Claude searches the catalog by name (search-actors), reads the input schema (fetch-actor-details), and runs it (call-actor) against any website or platform. Results come back as structured datasets that Claude can then summarize, compare, or feed into downstream work. The server is open source under Apache-2.0 from Apify at version 0.10.4 (May 2026), and OAuth handles the login so there is no API key to manage in plain text. Marketers and operators use it for competitive research, lead enrichment, SERP analysis, and review aggregation without leaving Claude.

For teams running this at scale
If a team will run the same Actors on a fixed schedule (hourly, daily) against thousands of sites, the MCP is the wrong interface. Schedule those Actors directly inside Apify's platform with their built-in scheduler and webhook outputs. Use the MCP for ad-hoc and conversational research where the next query depends on the last result.
We use Apify across our research and competitive intelligence work every week, which is why this review is hands-on rather than theoretical. Concretely, that means pulling SERP results to inform article and newsletter topic decisions, snapshotting competitor pricing pages on a cadence, aggregating reviews from G2 and Tripadvisor for client work, and using the RAG Web Browser Actor for ad-hoc fact-checking inside Claude conversations. One watch item: Actor run time varies by site complexity, so for time-sensitive research, budget a couple of minutes per query. The OAuth flow is the cleanest setup of any MCP we have installed.
